| ARTIST STATEMENT Storytelling and self exploration call me to paint. I am inspired by traditions in symbols, rooted in nature and fantasy. Dreamy tales filled with beauty, lost innocence, enchantment, struggles, wonder, and despair are the heartbeat of my work. With every painting there is a singular visual story to be told. These are the worlds I wish to live in.
BIOGRAPHY Angie Jones earned her BFA at the Atlanta College of Art in Atlanta (now SCAD), where she studied under noted artists Marcia Cohen and Dana Cibulski, both experts in color theory. She credits Cohen and Cibulski with developing the foundation for her artistic understanding. Before graduating, her work was included in several group exhibitions in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1995, Jones left her pencils and paint brush behind for a mouse to work as an animator in Computer Animation and Visual Effects. For the past 15 years, she has worked on movies like PAN'S LABYRINTH, XMEN 2, STUART LITTLE 2, SCOOBY DOO 2, GARFIELD, THE CAVE, STEALTH, FREDDY VS. JASON, CHRONICLES OF NARNIA and many others which you can read about here. In January, 2007 Jones sought out the paint brush again. She returned to her studies at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art and for the past year has been studying under the master painter Cheryl Kline at the Kline Academy. Her background in film creatively inspires the large format and composition of her paintings. Jones' interpretation of realism follows Naturalism and American Realist art. Her primary influences on philosophy and subject matter are Robert Henri and Joseph Campbell. Regarding style and technique she notes Diego Velasquez, Malcolm T. Liepke, John Singer Sargent, Lucian Freud and Julie Heffernan as highly influential to her aesthetic. During the past year, she has begun exhibiting her work in some of Los Angeles' most prominent art spaces. Angie creates because she has to or she get a little crazed. The best way she explains it is through Charles Bukowski's words...read them here.
